Told with vulnerability and a deft touch, “My Best Friend” captures a wistful fondness for a past lover. Synth elements create a dream-like atmosphere around resigned melodies and a bittersweet acoustic riff, inviting us to step back in time as Haley honestly makes sense of the relationship and accepts the misaligned desires that still feel unresolved. Ultimately, the song celebrates the heart’s capacity to grow to welcome new loves while holding space–in one way or another–for those in our past.
